What Is the InBody580?
A Closer Look at What Your Weight Is Made Of
In short, the InBody580 is a body composition analyzer that uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). During the test, you stand on the foot electrodes and hold the hand electrodes. Then, the device sends a very small, safe electrical signal through your body at four frequencies and reads how each segment responds.
Because muscle holds more water than fat, the signal moves through each tissue differently. As a result, the InBody580 can estimate your muscle, fat and body water for each arm, each leg and your trunk.
- Skeletal muscle mass as well as body fat mass
- Percent body fat and BMI
- Total body water, along with intracellular and extracellular water
- Visceral fat area, phase angle and segmental lean analysis

What Your InBody580 Result Sheet Shows
First of all, tap each section below to see what it measures. Then, compare it with the sample result sheet.
Your weight, broken into four parts
Specifically, this box splits your total weight into intracellular water, extracellular water, dry lean mass and body fat mass. In other words, it shows what your weight is made of, not just how much you weigh.
Muscle and fat side by side
Here, weight, skeletal muscle mass and body fat mass sit on one chart. For example, two people with the same weight can have very different bars, which is why this chart is so useful for a weight loss plan.
BMI and percent body fat
Basically, BMI only compares weight to height. However, percent body fat shows how much of your weight is fat, so the two numbers together give a clearer picture than BMI alone.
Muscle in each arm, leg and the trunk
Similarly, this section compares lean mass in your right arm, left arm, trunk, right leg and left leg. Therefore, it can show a difference between sides or a body area that needs more attention.
Body water balance
In particular, the ECW/TBW ratio compares extracellular water to total body water. Meanwhile, phase angle is a value InBody reports from the impedance readings, and your provider can explain what yours means for you.
Deep belly fat and your progress
Generally, visceral fat area estimates fat around the organs in your abdomen. In addition, the history chart lists your past scans, so you can see your progress over time instead of guessing.

Why It Matters
Scale or InBody580: What Is the Difference?
When you lose weight, you want to lose fat while keeping muscle. A scale cannot tell the difference, whereas the InBody580 can.
| What you see | Bathroom scale | InBody580 |
|---|---|---|
| Total body weight | Yes | Yes |
| Skeletal muscle mass | No | Yes |
| Body fat mass and percent body fat | No | Yes |
| Body water balance | No | Yes |
| Muscle in each arm, leg and the trunk | No | Yes |
| Visceral fat area | No | Yes |
| Progress history on one sheet | No | Yes |
How It Works
Your InBody580 Scan in Four Simple Steps
- 1
Book your visit
First, schedule a visit with our team or ask for a scan during your next appointment.

- 3
Step on and hold
Then, you stand barefoot on the platform and hold the hand electrodes for about 30 seconds.
- 4
Review your plan
Finally, you go over the result sheet with La’Shawnta Jackson, PA-C, and set clear next steps.
Before Your Scan
Your Prep Checklist
Small things, such as a big meal or a hard workout, can shift your readings. So, check off each tip as you get ready, and our team will also go over it with you.
Who Should Not Take the Test
InBody advises that people with an implanted electronic medical device, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, should not take a BIA test. Also, tell our team before your scan if you are pregnant or have any implant, so we can guide you.
The InBody580 gives estimates for wellness and progress tracking. It does not diagnose disease.
Pair It With Your Plan
Use Your Results With Allure Programs
Your InBody580 numbers are most helpful when they guide real choices. For instance, they can show whether a weight loss plan is protecting muscle.
FAQ
InBody580 Questions, Answered
Does the InBody580 test hurt?
No. The signal is very small, and most people do not feel anything. You simply stand still and hold the handles for about 30 seconds.
How long does the scan take?
The InBody580 test itself takes about 30 seconds. However, plan a little extra time so our team can enter your details and review the results with you.
Is the InBody580 accurate?
It gives consistent estimates when you test under similar conditions. For that reason, we suggest testing at the same time of day and following the prep checklist each time.
How often should I get scanned?
That depends on your goals and your plan. Your provider will suggest a schedule, since regular scans make it easier to see real progress.
Can anyone take the test?
Most adults can. Still, people with a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device should not take a BIA test, so tell our team about any device or pregnancy first.
How much does an InBody580 scan cost?
Pricing can change, so please call us at 951-374-0127 for current details or ask during your next visit.
