PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS
Are both appetite suppressants used in the treatment of overweight/obese patients. Phentermine and Phendimetrazine are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as appetite suppressants. These medications are approved for weight loss in conjunction with exercise, calorie intake and behavioral modifications. Appetite suppressants decrease your appetite so that you will feel satisfied eating smaller portions. However, it is your responsibility to make the right choices on what you eat. The medical provider (doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant) will determine which medication may be best suited for you and which dosage.
These medications should be taken on an empty stomach. We will give you written instructions to minimize side effects that could include insomnia. Do not crush or chew the tablets. These medications should be taken at least 8 hours prior to going to bed. Take these medications ONLY as directed by your medical provider. Phentermine/ Phendimetrazine are not recommended for children under 17 and adults over the age of 65 years old. Phentermine HCL is a schedule IV controlled substance. For that reason, it is only available with a doctor’s prescription, and only for 12 weeks at a time. When used as prescribed, Phentermine and Phendimetrazine are safe and well-tolerated.
